Japan Bans Console Modding and Save Editors

Japan, the capital of the contemporary electronic entertainment, has just Put some regolations in the videogaming sector.

Now

  • Distribution of game save data editors and programs
  • Distribution, selling, auctioning serial codes and product keys without the software maker’s permission
  • Services that offer the editing/hacking of save data, and/or modifying/hacking game consoles

Are actions and services punisable by the local laws.

do you remember the psx modchip ? Now in Japan is outlawed.
The sanctions consist in a 5 milions of yen fine max (Around  $45,882.07 ). A not so small amount of money. Think twice before modding a console in the country of the rising sun  !

The reason behind this goverment action maybe is discouragin people from profiting off other peoples products, like the recent case of Soulja Boy.
